As to the source of our information on the name of Elizabeth Martin’s fathers name being Will iam Martin, I had to research my correspondence. The name William Martin has been circulatin g for so long in our family that it was taken for granted. Unfortunately, when I started ou t on the quest to find my ancestors, I wasn’t too concerned with documentation. Years later , alas, I learned my lesson, “always document your sources on everything.” The original sour ce was probably family history related to me by my mother, Lessie Alexander Morris, daught er of Arkey Ann Hale, grand-daughter of Zelphia Smith, and great-grand-daughter of Elizabet h Martin Smith. My mother, unfortunately, is now deceased. The next source, the one whic h I have found written in my stack of notes, is an oral Hale family history, dictated to my s ister, Arthania Morris Koeker, by my mother’s cousin, James Monroe Hale, around 1975. Unfo rtunately, Monroe, as he was known is now deceased, Monroe lived with Elizabeth Martin Sm ith and Zelphia Smith when they resided with his father Thomas Martin Hale in Sebastian Co. A R.’s home (documented in the 1900 and 1910 Sebastian Co. Census). It has been my wife Nancy’ s quest for many years to find the name of Elizabeth Martin’s mother’s name. Alas, all atte mpts have to date been futile.
