Also note that the Uncle to Eva L ouisa Bean, Peter Michael Bean signs his name, Porter Bean. It is our feelings that Margare t Martin and Peter Michael Bean signed their names the way they did because they knew the doc ument did not tell the total truth, and they were trying to help Eva Louisa (Bean) Martin ge t a government pension. We remind members of the BEAN family who might read these document s (one signed by Porter Bean & the other signed by Margaret Jones) that we are members of th e MARTIN family, and doing researh on the MARTIN side of this BEEN family. Our interest is t o show that the "Margaret Jones" is in fact, Margarette "Margaret" (Schrum) Jones Martin an d our intent is to not defame Eva Louisa (Bean) Martin. We must assume that since Solomon P . Martin and Eva Louisa Bean were married on the 30th Day of November, 1852, that the 10th Da y of December, 1845, must be the marriage date of Solomon P. Martin and Eliza J. (__?__).]

John Bean5 was perhaps the most noted member of his f amily but a bit difficult to trace because of conflicting family accounts based on legend. F rom this we have gleaned some facts. He moved as a young man of 21 with his parents in 182 5 from Franklin Co., Tenn. to Waltonville, Ill., in the now famous covered wagon trip over th e mountains, but by 1829 he was back in Franklin Co., Tenn. for he was m. there to Elizabeth , and they lived there until 1842, then moving to Clarksville, Ark. They were the first Bea n family to live here and a great many of the Beans of Johnson Co., Ark. descend from them . John was an out-spoken sympathized for the Union and in 1860 it appears that he returned t o Illinois, where he died but his body was returned to Clarksville and the Mt. Vernon Cem. T his writer has visited his grave.

!BIO: "Sol Martin was home on sick leave in the Civil war. A gang of bushwhackers came and g ot him, took him up to Spadra Creek Hollow, north of Lone Pine and killed him. This was abou t 5 miles northwest of his home, at Martin's Spring, which is now in the Mt. Vernon community . The women of the community went with ox wagon, got the body, and buried him in the Mt. Ver non Cemetery. Another bunch of bushwhackers came and took the food, the only horse, and th e horse feed, and returned almost every day. The Martin family went with some of the Beans t o Mt. Vernon, Illinois, where some of the Beans lived. John Thomas Martin was 10 years old , the oldest of the children. They boarded a steamboat at Morrison's Bluff on the Arkansas R iver and sailed down to the Mississippi River, then up this stream to Neely's Landing in Illi nois; then overland to Mt. Vernon. They stayed there 2 years. The war over, they hired a ma n with team and wagon to move them back home. They came by way of Jasper, Newton County, t o the old home place, Martin Springs, about 7 miles north of Clarksville. Several years late r the people of the community formed a school district. John Thomas Martin suggested Mt. Ver non for the name, for the illinois town. The name was accepted and it still stands." The pre ceding was written by Orla C. Martin. - Source - Jayne McGuire - e-mail - mcguire@pldi.net
