Zion, Ark., John James King, b. 3-24-1855, Clear Spr ings, Ark., d. 5-14-1938, Harmony, Ark., both bur., Harmony Cem., the son of John James and M argaretta (Payne) King. They were Presbyterians. They had 9 children 1st 7 b. at Clear Spri ngs and the last 2 at Harmony, Ark. The original Thomas King was b. in S.C. in 1798 and move d to Springville, Alabama in 1820. He and his wife Nancy had 9 children 2 girls and 7 boys . One of them was John James King. He with one of his brothers moved west to Johnson Co., A rk., in 1844 with two ox carts, often having to cut the trees down with an ax to widen the In dian trails to get the carts through. They settled at Clear Springs, north of Clarksville, n ear Spodia Creek. John James King and his wife are both bur., in King Cem., at Clear Spring s, north of Clarksville. They had 8 children, Hannah, Ellen, Thomas, John, Reuben, Arch, Rob ert and Joe. He served in the Confederate Army in the Civil war and returned home and was el ected as the "Brothers of Freedom" candidate over the Democrat candidate for Treasurer. Hi s son, Thomas, was elected to the State Legislature. Children of Malissa and John:
