!BIOGRAPHY: 8852 Lavicia Catherine Bean 6 (Fam. 4366 Vol. I, pg. 1086, d/o John R. (Bean) b . 1860, Low Gap, Clarksville, Ark., d. 1903, Hartford, Ark., m. Isaac Matthew Long., b. 9-18 -1857, Miss., d. 2-15-1890, Hartford, Ark., both bur. in Valley View Cem., s/o James & Caroli ne (Goar) Long, and Grs/o Issac & Elizabeth (__?__) Long, he coming from England and first se ttling in Ala. Lavicia's parents, John R. and Elizabeth (Smith) Bean came to Ark. from Mt. V ernon, ILL., where his Gr/pts had moved to from Franklin Co., Tenn., in the famous Wagon Trai n of 1825. He established his farm at Low Gap, a mountain top area some 12 or 13 miles up fr om Clarksville. It is a typical place where a Scottish Laddie would make his home. Here hi s children were born while he grubbed the stumps to make a farm and a home. He was a true Pi oneer. This writer has visited the old Bean home in Bean Holler, Franklin Co., Tenn., & th e home in Mt. Vernon, ILL., and the home on Low Gap and what I saw only gives me great respec t for this family. On the Farm at Low Gap is a three spring fountain of water running from s pots not ten feet from each other and a very different mineral flows from each. This sprin g ran when he took the farm and made it into a home, and it is still running today. It has b een surrounded with a stone wall and a concrete floor and three 1/2 inch pipes carry the thre e different kinds of water away. When the Civil war came, the family, including Lavicia, rem oved to Mt. Vernon, ILL., until the war was over because of the intense Anti-Union sympathie s around Clarksville at the time. She was only a baby when they left the farm on Low Gap, an d a child when they, returned. He enlisted in the Union army in the war. The old farm is n ow deserted. The buildings are all rotted down and not a thing remains to show that a famil y once lived there except a few brick from the foundation, which have not been carried away , and the rusty remains of an old Kitchen range that lays below where it once stood in the ki tchen where Elizabeth Bean [Analiza Jane (Smith) Been] once presided over her small family o f three daus. & 1 son. The farm is all grown up into trees & brush now & thick with hungry w ood ticks. I remember this very realistically because after I walked thru the woods I had qu ite a job removing them from tender places like under arms etc. This was the pioneer home o f Lavicia Catherine Bean. She and Matt 3 ch. After his early death she remarried, William L oudermilk. They lv. at Hartford and Greenwood, Ark., where the ch. were b. no ch. by 2nd mar riage. + James Edward Long b. 1880, Ark. m Mary Slankard ....(8852-1) + James Edwar d Long b. 1880, Ark. m.
