Dear Don,
Thank you for sharing your research on Elizabeth Smith. I did know she was the grandmothe r of “ Tennessee” and John Solomon Bean but for some reason I have it wrong on my comput er. Probably because I did not have their mother’s name. A few years ago the South Sebastia n County Historical Society published an article in their magazine “The Key” about John Sol omon Bean and Margaret E. (Talbott) Been. In it was the fact that the children had been rai sed by their grandmother Elizabeth Smith. Apparently I passed my copy of the article to the ir great grand daughter who lives by us. My husband is related to this line of the Been fami ly as well as being a second great grandson of Mary Elizabeth “Tennessee” Been.
I’m waiting for the day I discover my husband is his own cousin. His mother’s family has bee n in south Sebastian County since 1860 - or at least a part of it has. And there have been m arriages between almost every family - Beens, Raburns, Williams, Walkers, Gilstraps, Logans a nd Carvers. Then a cousin of his Mother married his Dad’s nephew...so the tangle continues t o grow. Would you be interested in any information of the descendants of John R. and Analiz a Jane (Smith) Been? What I have is not complete. Most of it came from Connie Raburn’s rese arch. I had access to her notebooks and her copies of The Life and Family of John Bean of Ex eter and his cousins Vol. I (1970) and The Clan MacBean in North America (1976). Connie die d shortly after her husband retired and they moved back to Arkansas in the late 1970s. Sinc e her husband’s death in 1986 one of his sisters has the material; but I do not believe she i s doing any additional research. I wish she would donate the books to the Fort Smith Publi c Library.
Do you have any information on Elizabeth ( Martin) Smith’s parents ? Sincerely, Cleta Terrell . Hackett, AR 72937
