Ans. I am head of a family, consisting of a wife.
Ques. 4. Are you a native-born citizen of the United States?
Ans. Yes.
Ques. 5. Are there any indications of coal, salines, or minerals of any kind on the land embr aced in your homestead entry above described?

Ques. 6. Is the land more valuable for agricultural than mineral purposes?

The Condition Of The Above Obligation Is Such, That if the above bounden J.W. Martin Admin istrate of all and singular the goods and chattels, right and credits of J.M. Martin decease d, shall make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the good s and chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased, which have or may come to the hands , possession or knowledge of him the said administrator or into the hands or possession of an y other person for him and the same so made shall return and exhibit in the office of the Cle rk of the Court of Probate for the County of Scott within sixty days from the date of the abo ve obligation, and all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits of the decease d, which shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of the said J.W. Martin, shall wel l and truly administer, according to law, and pay the debts of the deceased, as far as the as sets will extend and the law direct; and further, make, or cause to be made, just and true ac counts of his administration, and make due and proper settlements thereof from time to time , according to law, or the lawful order, sentence or decree of any Court having competent jur isdiction, and shall, moreover, well and truly do and perform all other matters and things to uching such administration, that are or may be prescribed by law, or enjoined on such Adminis trate by the lawful order, sentence or decree of any Court having competent jurisdiction, the n the above obligation to be void and of no effect; otherwise to remain in full force and vir tue.

Martin of the County of Sc ott Administrator of all and singular, the goods and chattels, rights and credits, which wer e of the said J.M. Martin at the time of his death, with full power and authority to secur e and dispose of the said property, according to law, and collect all moneys due said decease d, and in general to do and perform all other acts and things which are or hereafter may be r equired of him by law.

Walker and asking a certain promissory n ote to secure the payment of the balance due on said purchase to convey the estate here in af ter described to the said John W. Walker and his heirs which said agreement was as follow s to wit: John W. Walker was to pay to John M. Martin the sum of five hundred dollars i n consideration of which the said John M. Martin was to convey all of his right and title t o all of the lands herein after described and whereas the said John W. Walker has fully com plied with and performed all the conditions on his part in said agreement contained and on re present action thereof to the Probate Court of Scott County holden at Waldron on the 13th da y of October 1880 the said court by ____ order did authorize and empower me the said administ rator by deed to grant and convey the estate herein after described to the said John W. Wal ker upon the terms and conditions in said agreement contained, and whereas the descriptions o f the land in the deed executed under and by virtue of the order aforesaid is so vague and un certain that this is given and executed in substitution therefor Now, therefor know ye, tha t by virtue of the authority and order of said court given at aforesaid and in order to carr y unto full effect the said agreement of the said John M. MARTIN FAMILY STORIES
Daddy [ Will Massie Martin] has always said his father didn't say much about his family bu t I will tell what I have heard him tell.
Thomas Henry Martin had 2 bro[thers] Jack & Bill. The best I can figure Jack would b e John W. "Jack" Martin and Bill would be William Wilson "Bill" Martin.
Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] and Jack [ John W. "Jack" Martin] fought in the Civil war . Jack [John W. "Jack" Martin] came to visit in Floyd County & left his Civil war rifl e & Daddy played with it and tore it up. I have no record of either.
Bill [ William Wilson "Bill" Martin] owned land in Floyd County, Texas. N.E. of Floydada clos e to South Plains.
Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] had taken his boys, John [ John Millard Martin] & Wes [ Ma rion Wesley "Wes" Martin] to the store of his father in Arkansas. He [ John Miller Martin] t old Tom to "get them boys out of here before they tear something up."
There was never anything said about divorce between Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] & Meli ssa [Melissa Margaret ( Self) Martin], I had always assumed she had died maybe in a child bi rth as so many others did. There was a baby died & he had an extra thumb on one hand. To m [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin], Martha [Martha Elizabeth (Britt) Martin] & family moved to Te xas, maybe Brown County around 1885. It was always said John [John Millard Martin] & " Wes " [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] lived with them.
They moved to Floyd County, Texas. around 1891. When Wes [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] wa s about 16 yrs old his step - mother [Martha Elizabeth ( Britt) Martin] told him go feed th e horses and this made him mad so he went back to Arkansas. This would be about 1887 about t he time you found the "Guardian Bound" appointing Spencer Self guardian, Spencer was his m other’s brother.
Wes [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] married Sallie Berry in Vernon, Texas 18 June 1891 . I have marriage license. The article I wrote about T.H. Martin was in the Floyd Co. Hes perian Floydada, Texas.

[...] I have a sketch that another cousin Betty Hollowell who lives in Athens, TX., and wa s the granddaughter of Minnie Tate and Minnie was a sister to Ellen Tate, drew while o n a visit to Danville, AR. Cemetery and it shows what I would call a family burial plot an d John W. Martin’s grave is right behind my great grandparents graves and gives his birt h as 24 Dec. 1846 died 15 Feb. 1924 only they couldn’t find a marker for Ellen but there wa s an unmarked grave next to John W. Also there was other members of the family in the sam e area. Also from the info you sent to me he was living in Yell Co. when the 1920 census wa s taken.[...]
