!BIOGRAPHY: Information is a letter, and inclosed information from Carolyn Ann ( Martin) Sue , Lockney, Texas 79241. Addressed to Don Martin Thomas, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103. Posta l Dated, LOCKNEY, TX NOV 7 1994. Carolyn Ann (Martin) Sue, daughter of Will Massie Marti n, writes the following about her Martin family.
----------------
MARTIN FAMILY STORIES
Daddy [ Will Massie Martin] has always said his father didn't say much about his family bu t I will tell what I have heard him tell.
Thomas Henry Martin had 2 bro[thers] Jack & Bill. The best I can figure Jack would b e John W. "Jack" Martin and Bill would be William Wilson "Bill" Martin.
Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] and Jack [ John W. "Jack" Martin] fought in the Civil war . Jack [John W. "Jack" Martin] came to visit in Floyd County & left his Civil war rifl e & Daddy played with it and tore it up. I have no record of either.
Bill [ William Wilson "Bill" Martin] owned land in Floyd County, Texas. N.E. of Floydada clos e to South Plains.
Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] had taken his boys, John [ John Millard Martin] & Wes [ Ma rion Wesley "Wes" Martin] to the store of his father in Arkansas. He [ John Miller Martin] t old Tom to "get them boys out of here before they tear something up."
There was never anything said about divorce between Tom [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin] & Meli ssa [Melissa Margaret ( Self) Martin], I had always assumed she had died maybe in a child bi rth as so many others did. There was a baby died & he had an extra thumb on one hand. To m [ Thomas Henry "Tom" Martin], Martha [Martha Elizabeth (Britt) Martin] & family moved to Te xas, maybe Brown County around 1885. It was always said John [John Millard Martin] & " Wes " [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] lived with them.
They moved to Floyd County, Texas. around 1891. When Wes [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] wa s about 16 yrs old his step - mother [Martha Elizabeth ( Britt) Martin] told him go feed th e horses and this made him mad so he went back to Arkansas. This would be about 1887 about t he time you found the "Guardian Bound" appointing Spencer Self guardian, Spencer was his m other’s brother.
Wes [ Marion Wesley "Wes" Martin] married Sallie Berry in Vernon, Texas 18 June 1891 . I have marriage license. The article I wrote about T.H. Martin was in the Floyd Co. Hes perian Floydada, Texas.

!LETTER: Letter written by Virgie M. (Martin) Rivenbark Patton to her first cousins Anna Le e (Martin) Gideumb and Melissa Jewell (Martin) Yandell. Compliments of Carolyn (Martin) Sue , Rt. 1 Box 112, Lockney, Texas. Letter reads as follows: Wichita Falls, Texas, Sept. 14, 195 8. Dear Annie Lee and Jewel: Have been trying to find time to write you for past two weeks bu t have busy and two this is a hard letter to write. Dad [John Millard Martin] passed away o n August 27th of an acute heart attack. He stated at breakfast table that morning that he fe lt better than he had in months and was going to take his walk early as it was cool. I wen t to work as usual and about 8:45 a lady called me and said dad had fallen in front of her ho use on the side walk and she thought he should be taken to hospital. (She lives about 1 1/ 2 blocks from home). I asked her to call the ambulance and I would call the doctor and we wo uld meet them at the hospital. We got to hospital about same time and Dad didn't seem to b e in any pain and was conscious all the time. He talked to me and took his billfold, coin pu rse, knife and keys out of his pockets and handed them to me. He said he got a little dizz y and fell. Dr. was afraid he was Paralyzed from hips down as he couldn't get any reflexes f rom his knees. He asked dad if he could draw his knees up and he said "yes" and did so, so t hat let paralysis out. Doctor joked with dad about them getting old and dad laughed. Dr. sa id they would keep him in hospital 24 hours and check him over good and he told the nurses wh at to do and for them to call him if they needed him. I was standing at dad's side with my h and on his arm and the Doctor had just gotten outside of door when I heard dad give a littl e grown and I looked at him and he was having difficulty in breathing. I called to Dr. Prich ard to hurry back as I thought he was dying and the doctor and nurse were there in a jiffy an d he was gone in about 2 seconds no suffering - just went to sleep. The Doctor gave him an i njection to stimulate his heart, but it did no good. Dr. said he never saw anyone go as quic kly as he did. That's the way dad wanted to go. He always had a horror to falling and break ing his hip or leg and being an invalid and a care for several years. I sure do miss him - h e was so much company and help to me in many ways. He always had breakfast with me and alway s had the house cool for me in the summer and warm in the winter when I would get home from w ork. Mary, Bill & daughter, Pete & husband and George came down for funeral. Tom, my brothe r, and Norene my sister, came as soon as they received news. Lorene was sick and could not c ome. Uncle Jesse Martin & Aunt Kate, & Carl & Will came and so did Uncle Claude. Aunt Selm a was sick and couldn't come. Hope all of you are well and doing okay. I would appreciate y our sending this on to Jewel as it is for both of you. I have so many letters to write an d I don't have time at the office to write personal letters. Dad always looked forward to he aring from you and Jewel. He loved all of Wess's children. Love to all of you and hope to he ar from you soon. Your cousin Virgie Rivenbark
