!MILITARY: Civil war record of James Thomas Lynch - James Thomas Lynch joined the Army Marc h 6, 1862, age 22 years 2 months 19 days. Assigned as a private in the infantry, Company B . 40th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers. Served 3 years and 24 days. Honorably discharged a t Goldsboro N.C. March 31st, 1865. Captain W. T. Sprouse was company commander until after t he battle of Shiloh, then 1st Lieut., John Perkins took charge of the company. Participate d in the following battles: (1) Shiloh - on the Tennessee River on April 6th and 7th 1862. (2 ) Corinth - in Mississippi October 3rd and 4th 1862. (3) Lookout Mountain. (4) Missionary Ri dge - Both took place at Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 24th and 25th 1863. General W. T . Sherman was Commander of my Division before he was made General of the Union Army. After b eing discharged from the army, returned to Salem, Illinois and married Mary Ann Stovall in 18 66. They moved to Texas in 1884, settled in Springtown (Parker County, Texas). After one ye ar moved to Forth Worth, (Tarrant County, Texas), where he spent the remainder of his life . Worked as a cooper for Cameron Mill and Elevator Company (who later sold to Burrus Mill an d Elevator Company) for 32 years, with exception of two years at Denison, working for Waple s Platter Grocery Company and Cameron Mill and Elevator Company. It is alleged that James T. Lynch enlisted March 6, 1862 and served as a Pr., in Co., B, 4 0 Reg’t ILLs. Inf., and was discharged at Goldsborough, N.C., March 31, 1865.
It is also alleged that while on duty at Memphis, Tenn. On or about July __, 1862, he was dis abled by chronic Diarrhea, Piles, and ______fheart and was treated in hospitals of which th e names, locations, and dates of treatment are as follows: was treated in hospital at Memphis , Tenn., about 6 months commencing in July 1862.
In case of the above-named soldiers the War Department is requested to furnish an official st atement of the enrollment, discharge, and record of service so far as the same may be applica ble to the foregoing allegation, together wih full medical history. Please give the rank h e held at the time he is claimed to have incurred the disability alleged, and if records sho w that he wa not in line of duty during that period, let the fact be stated

On this 31st day of July, A.D., one thousand eight hundred and ninety- ______, personally app eared before me, G.W. Alexander a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesa id, James T. Lynch, aged 50 years, a resident of the city of Fort Worth County of Tarrant , State of Texas, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical s oldier, who was Enrolled on the 6th day of March, 1862, in Private Co., B., 40, ILL., Vol., I nfantry in the war of the rebellion, and served at least ninety days, and was Honorably Disch arged at Goldsboro N.C., on the 31st day of March, 1865. That he is unable to earn a suppor t by manual labor by reason of Heart Disease and piles. That said disabilities are not due t o his vicious habits, and are to the best of his knowledge and belief permanent. That he ha s never applied for pension heretofore.
That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the Uni ted States, under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890.
He hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Wm. W. Dudley, of Washi ngton, D.C., his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim, the fee to be Ten Dollars a s prescribed by law. Goff age 60 years , a resident of Fort Worth, in the County of Tarrant, and State of Texas, whose Post-Office a ddress is Fort Worth, Texas, and well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who , being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I have known James T . Lynch for about 12 years. Since I have known him he has been an upright and sober man an d a leading member of the M.E. church. I have seen him offten, sometimes every day and he ha s complained to me of heart tremblers and Piles. I know of my own personal knowledge that h e has not been able to work only part of the time at his trade that is a Cooper. I never wor ked with him but worked near where he was employed when he was able to work. I write this wi thout being dictated to written or oral and no interest in said claim.

!OBITUARY: MRS. MARY A. LYNCH DIES HERE SATURDAY, Mrs. Mary A. Lynch, 72, for thirty-five yea rs a resident of Fort Worth, died at her home Stop 3, Arlington Heights boulevard at 10 o'clo ck Saturday morning. Mrs. Lynch came to Fort Worth with her husband J.T. Lynch, from Illnoise . He is a cooper and was employed by the then Camerob Flour Mill, now the Burrus. She and Mr . Lynch celebrated their golden wedding aniversary four years ago. Besides the husband thre e daughters, Mrs. F.M. Carter, Mrs W.J. AcAllister and Mrs. Katie McKinney all of Fort Worth , and one son, C.A., of Oklahoma City, survive. Funeral services will be held Monday mornin g at 10 o'clock from the residence and interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.

Lynch, on the 6th day of March, 1862, as a Private, in Co., B., 40th Regiment, IL L., Vol., in the service of the United States, in the Civil war, and was Honorably Discharge d at Goldsboro, on the 31 day of March, 1865. That he also served, None. That his persona l description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 feet 8 inches; complexion, Dark; colo r of eyes, Grey; color of hair, Dark; that his occupation was, Farmer, that he was born Decem ber 17th, 1839, at Lincoln County, Tennessee. That he requires the regular personal aid an d attendance of another person on account of the following disabilities: Pa__nision - Marke d defect in hearing, chronic Cystitis, Chronic Chlocystitis, obstinate Constipation. !OBITUARY: Fort Worth Record Newspaper, Wednesday Morning, June 1, 1927.; Rites For Civil Wa r Veteran Are Today, Funeral services for James Thomas Lynch, 87, Civil war veteran and pione er resident of Fort Worth, who died at his home, 2628 West Seventh Street, Tuesday, will be h eld at the Assembly of God Church today at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery . Survivors are three daughters; Mrs. W.J. McAlister and Mrs. Mattie Carter of Fort Worth, a nd Mrs. Kittie McKinney of Los Angeles; one son, C.H. Lynch of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildre n and three great grandchildren. Lynch had lived in this city since 1883 and was employed fo r 30 years prior to his death by the Burrus Mill and Elevator Company here. He participate d in some of the most important battles of the Civil war during his term of enlistment.

!OBITUARY: James Thomas Lynch, 87, Civil War veteran and pioneer, resident of Fort Worth, die d Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at his home at 2628 West Seventh Street. He had been ill for severa l months from complications arising from a fall in which his left arm was broken. Funeral se rvice for the veteran will be held at the Assembly of God Church, Jennings Avenue and Morph y Street, at 10 a.m. Wednesday and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors are th ree daughters, Mrs. W. J. McAllister and Mrs Mattie Carter, Fort Worth: Mrs. Kittie McKinney , Los Angeles; one son, C. H. Lynch, Oklahoma City: 11 grandchildren and three great grandchi ldren. Lynch moved to Fort Worth in 1883 and lived here until his death. For 30 years he wa s employed by the Burrus Mill and Elevator Company as foreman of the cooper shop. He began w ork for the concern when it was under the management of William Cameron. He was born in Linc oln County, Tennessee, Dec 1, 1839 moving to Marion County, Illinois with his parents when h e was 14 years old. At the age of 23 he joined the Union Army and served three years in Comp any B. Fortieth Regiment of Illinois Volunteers, under the command of Lieut, John Perkin. Du ring his enlistment he participated in several important battles, among which were those at S hiloh, Tennessee, Mouniah and Atlanta. After being honorably discharged at Goldsbore, N. C. , in March of 1865, he returned to Illinois and married Miss Mary Stoval of Alma on Nov 7, 18 66. In 1882 he moved his family to Texas, settling near Springtown. A year later he came t o Fort Worth. - LYNCH - Funeral service for James Thomas Lynch, 87, 2628 West Seventh Stree t, who died Tuesday, was held at the Assembly of God Church Wednesday morning.
